Metallurgy
Howard joined Goldschmidt in 2014. He started as an engineering development manager and then moved into a Senior Metallurgist role at our location Thermit Welding in Great Britain.
My goal is to make the best use of my knowledge, expertise and passion in the field of rail steel metallurgy, thereby strengthening the technical function within the Goldschmidt Group. I plan and manage technical projects with the aim of improving the performance and safety of railroads. In addition, Goldschmidt is also the preferred supplier of Thermit® welding products and expertise in the UK and I want to play my part in maintaining this status and, where possible, finding additional opportunities through technical innovation.
The most exciting part of my job is the challenge of making the best use of expertise and innovation to develop solutions to technical problems. After 35 years, the subject of metallurgy still inspires me.
In my own work environment and that of others I have been fortunate to work with, the work atmosphere provides a productive environment. I also, very much enjoy working with my technical colleagues in the other companies of the Goldschmidt Group. We highly recognize each other’s expertise and experience.
I am not sure that an employer can be perfect. But for me personally, Goldschmidt comes very close. Goldschmidt has given me the motivation I need to continue looking for new solutions and to improve the variety of products and processes and facilitate their implementation in the railroad network. In addition, the company has been and continues to be extremely accommodating and supportive of family issues. Without the understanding and considerable support, I would not have been able to continue my career as I have.
